Starnet Design Reorganizes

ALLENDALE, NJ—Motivated by customers and driven by changing trends in the market, Starnet Design and Litho, a graphic communications supplier to the tri-state area since 1987, has reorganized its business into five "sister companies" giving it the capability to offer diverse integrated communications services to its customers.

All facilities, located under one roof with the exception of its fulfillment facility in Lake Placid, NY, were born following a year-long analysis and re-engineering process geared specifically to service specialized groups and audiences.

"If you don't reinvent your business, it's not bound to see a lot of growth," explains Jeff DiPaola, president. "We went to our customers and listened to what changes they felt would help us improve fulfilling their needs and making them a better company."

The new companies, which employ 40 and have sales estimated between $5.5 and $6 million, are: Starnet Design and Litho, offering prepress, creative design and digital printing services; NorthStar Communications, offering direct-to-plate technology, general commercial printing and finishing needs; mailing services as well as database management by MailStar; MountainStar for screen printing promotional items and warehouse/fulfillment facilities; and StarNet Associates, focusing on direct response marketing.

"With the impact technology has had in our business, we had to make changes—it was inevitable," states DiPaola. The re-engineering was specifically aimed for today's advances in technology and the electronic world. The new system, completely integrated, grants StarNet the ability to effectively manage customers' electronic assets in a multitude of areas.

"Our customers and the marketplace are demanding more and better integrated services," states Doug Wechsler, principal of StarNet Associates, "and that's exactly the offering we have assembled."

This reorganization, in particular, increases the company's 'one-stop shop' capabilities by eliminating customers from moving their data to different locations, aids in the creation of Web sites and hosting, developing presentation and trade show graphics, and Indigo printing, among others.

"Printing has very much been a metal industry; now we are focusing on being a communications products deliverer, working on and utilizing the talent we do have," concludes DiPaola.
