IADD/FSEA Odyssey Slated for May
MILWAUKEE—Postpress will be the name of the game during the 2007 IADD/FSEA Odyssey, to be held here May 2-4 at the Midwest Airlines Center. Sponsored by the International Association of Diecutting and Diemaking (IADD) and the Foil Stamping and Embossing Association (FSEA), the Odyssey will be packed with targeted information to assist printers in expanding their operations into the world of postpress converting.
Odyssey will present classroom sessions, on-press educational sessions on the TechShop floor and a trade fair exhibition with more than 100 postpress suppliers. The IADD-sponsored sessions include “Getting the Best Impression on Your Creases,” which is targeted for commercial printers that are diecutting, along with “Makeready Techniques and How They Affect Setup and Diecutting,” and “Common Press System Setup Problems.” Also of interest will be “Ask the Experts,” where attendees can bring samples of difficult-to-diecut jobs and get answers right on the spot from trade experts.
Additional educational sessions sponsored by the Binding Industries Association include “Bindery Automation in the 21st Century” and “Troubleshooting Common Myths with Static Electricity.”

New High-Speed Folder for Blanks Printing & Imaging
DALLAS—Blanks Printing & Imaging recently added to its existing Heidelberg equipment with the installation of a Stahlfolder B 26. The new folder runs at an average rate of 16,000 sph.
Jim Speed, who is head of the bindery, says Blanks runs the folder almost 50 hours a week. He notes that having a third large folder increases productivity. The company can now run an additional 16 hours of production per day, which allows for quick turn times for clients. Its postpress department also includes three Polar cutters.
The new high-speed folder at Blanks Printing & Imaging is allowing 16 additional hours of production per day.
Publishers Press Installing Landmark Stitcher
LEBANON JUNCTION, KY—Publishers Press is installing the world’s first Goss Pacesetter 2200 saddlestitcher at its facility here this month. The magazine printer will also add a new Goss Universalbinder adhesive binding system.
Joe Sweeney, bindery manager at Publishers Press, says high net throughput along with simplified operation and makereadies were key factors in selecting the new shaftless saddlestitching technology for short- to medium-run publication applications.
