West Coast Bindery Folds Faster

LOS ANGELES—Hart Bindery, a trade shop serving color houses, ad agencies, and web and sheetfed printers, recently installed a Vijuk–G&K V-14 commercial/miniature folder. Replacing three existing folders, the V-14 is being used to fold small leaflets to accommodate Hart’s pharmaceutical customers.

Iowa Printer Seeks Perfection

LOGAN, IA—Specializing in school textbooks and workbooks, Perfection Press has upgraded its printing capabilities with the purchase of a four-color Heidelberg Printmaster PM 74 perfector.


PHOENIX—A new four-color Heidelberg Printmaster PM 52 is now in operation at direct mail operation United Printing & Mailing.

Steve Woods Printing Co., also based in Phoenix, reports it is the first Arizona printer to receive Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain-of-custody certification.


LOWELL—The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has invested in a new shaftless Goss Uniliner tower addition for its existing Goss Headliner press, where the Northwest edition of the state-wide paper is printed. The new tower will help the publisher meet the increasing demands for more color pages. Installation will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2007.


ANAHEIM—Lester Lithograph has expanded its capabilities with the installation of a Harris & Bruno coater and a Kodak Approval proofing system. The installations ended a year full of growth for Lester Lithograph, including a merger with Baldwin Park, CA-based Miller Graphics.

IRVINE—Primary Color has received chain-of-custody certification from the Forest Stewardship Council for its Culver City printing operation.

LOS ANGELES—A second eight-color, 16-page MAN Roland Rotoman heatset web press in four years has been purchased by ColorGraphics Inc.

SAN FRANCISCO—Graphic Imagery recently installed a Polar 78 X cutter and a Prosetter 52 violet CTP device from Heidelberg. The small commercial printer houses four- and two-color GTO presses.

TRACY—Wesco Graphics purchased two Kodak Trendsetter News 50 plate- setters and now uses Thermal News digital plates to produce its real estate guides, college schedules and monthly publications.


DENVER—Mido Printing recently added several Kodak solutions, including a Magnus 800 platesetter, Prinergy Connect workflow system, Veris digital proofer and Matchprint 800 ink-jet proofing system.

DENVER—The Denver Newspaper Agency purchased two Kodak Trendsetter News 100 platesetters, Staccato screening, and News Manager, Preps and Prinergy EVO workflow systems for its commercial division. Also used are Thermal News digital plates.
