In Texas, The Imaging Bureau Adds New Site

ARLINGTON, TX—The Imaging Bureau, a 29-employee shop based here that handles film output, ink-jet posters, digital and commercial printing, currently rents a 10,000-square-foot space. By the end of the year, however, that's all going to change if Brian Walden gets his way.

"Our plan is to build a 50,000-square-foot building in Arlington that will include the new web press and require hiring 15 to 20 additional employees," says Walden, who started the company as a one-man operation eight years ago.

The firm, which already runs a five-color Heidelberg sheetfed press, plans to add an eight-unit Heidelberg M-110 with double folder and UV coater.

Why the ambitious move? Working with area design agencies and print brokers, Walden kept hearing that web presses in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area were running seven days a week, 24 hours a day and can't keep up with the demand. Consequently, local print buyers have been forced to Minnesota, Illinois, Kentucky and other states in search of press time.

"Scheduling time on a web press is challenging, due to the client's timeline and the demand being put on web printers in the area," says Lynne Swihart, production manager for Blanchard Schaefer Advertising & Public Relations. "We currently use Imaging Bureau for film output, but the addition of the web press will give me another scheduling and bidding option."
