Death Penalty Vacated for Printer's Murderer

August 28, 2009
PITTSBURGH—A man who was twice convicted for the 1985 murder and robbery of a printing store clerk here had his death sentence vacated by a judge. Salvador Carlos Santiago, 46, will now spend the rest of his life in prison for the Jan. 17, 1985, murder of Patrick Huber, an employee of Minute Man Press. Santiago also fatally shot a convenience store clerk two days before killing Huber. According the The Associated Press, Allegheny County Judge Jeffrey Manning made the decision because prosecutors sought to end Santiago's repeated appeals.
