CITY OF INDUSTRY—Kion Printing has invested in a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 press with coater. Founded in 1982, Kion Printing is a privately held company housing 52 employees.

FOOTHILL RANCH—Westamerica Graphics recently installed a six-color Komori Lithrone S40. This is the sixth Komori press for the 29-year-old firm. The company is facing increased client demands for short-turnaround, four-, five- and six-color print applications.

REDWOOD CITY—Pacific Printing and Fulfillment Inc. (PPFI) recently purchased its third Kodak NexPress 2100 digital production color press and its first Kodak NexPress fifth imaging unit to increase its services to include in-line coating and an expanded color gamut range.


EAST WINDSOR—Keystone Paper & Box installed its first KBA press to meet the increase in volume it has been experiencing. The new six-color, 41˝ Rapida 105 press was delivered in August and will be fully operational this month.


DOWNERS GROVEJet, a privately held sheetfed commercial printer and card manufacturer, introduced the capability to print on NatureWorks PLA (polylactic acid), a corn-based plastic, offering customers the added appeal of plastic made from nature with all the performance and convenience of traditional petroleum-based plastic.

NEWTON—Total Printing Systems has acquired a new five-color Kodak NexPress 2100 plus printing system. This system will be used to expand its short-run book and variable publishing capabilities.


ALEXANDRIA—The Town Talk, a Gannett-owned daily newspaper, has purchased two of Agfa’s violet :Advantage platesetters, one for the news-paper and the other for its McCormick Graphics commercial operation at a separate facility.


BALTIMORE—Family owned and operated Cogar Printing has picked up multiple presses and prepress equipment from Heidelberg, including a Suprasetter 74 CTP device; a five-color Printmaster PM 52 press; and a pair of two-color Printmaster QM 46 presses. The company transitioned from film processing and polyester platesetting to thermal platesetting to update its prepress department.
