Graphics Ink, Cary Printing Become Latest Printers to Go Under

DURHAM – Graphics Ink in Durham and Cary Printing in Morrisville have joined a growing list of Triangle printing companies that have succumbed to declining demand for commercial printing services. Trish Harmon founded Paste-Ups Ltd., which does business as Graphics Ink, in 1986. That was just a year before Tim Bannister’s family founded Cary Printing in Cary; he later moved the company to Morrisville to cater to corporate clients needing full-service printing for marketing materials, corporate brochures and annual reports.

Green Printer Promotes ‘Blue Air’ PHOENIX—As Arizona’s only employee-owned commercial printing company, O’Neil Printing is used to thinking outside the box. To help solidify branding and enhance name recognition, the Goodway Group of Companies, headquartered in Philadelphia, announced that its Massachusetts plant has changed its name from Goodway Graphics to Goodway Group of Massachusetts. Their sister facility near Washington, DC, has changed to Goodway Group of Virginia. In other company news, both the Massachusetts and Virginia plants are now FSC certified. The Print Council announced that GLS Companies, Brooklyn Park, MN; The Hickory Printing Group, Hickory, NC; Jet Inc., Downers Grove, IL; and Lake County Press, Waukegan, IL, have joined the organization. Arandell Corp. Honored by DNR MADISON, WI—Arandell Corp., of Menomonee Falls, WI, was welcomed September 27 into the state’s Green Tier program, which provides regulatory and publicity incentives to organizations that voluntarily achieve superior environmental performance. Representatives from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and other state officials honored Arandell Corp. at a ceremony here. Prior to joining Green Tier, the high-end catalog printer recycled more than 43 million pounds of paper, aluminum, plastic film and inks. By switching to a new lighting system, Arandell saves 1.8 million kilowatt-hours annually. Arandell also reduced its VOC emissions by 20 tons after installing new press wash systems.

Kim Hawley has joined Dallas-based Taylor Publishing as vice president of sales and marketing for the Taylor Specialty Book division.
