Quad/Graphics Named to FORTUNE’s 2007 List of ‘100 Best Companies to Work For’

January 2007
SUSSEX, WI—1/08/07—Outstanding employee benefits and a unique corporate culture have landed Quad/Graphics on FORTUNE magazine’s 2007 list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For.” The list and related stories appear in the January 22 issue of FORTUNE, available on newsstands January 15 and at www.fortune.com today.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be featured on the ‘100 Best’ list alongside so many remarkable companies,” said Quad/Graphics President & CEO Joel Quadracci. “Our appearance on the list recognizes our long-standing track record of taking better care of our employees. Throughout our 35-year history, we have been a company by employees and for employees, and we will continue to be far into the future. We want to remain one of the best companies to work for, regardless if we receive national recognition.”

The annual list, compiled for FORTUNE by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Place to Work® Institute, ranks Quad/Graphics

#75 overall and #26 out of the 39 large companies that made the ranking.

The magazine cites, among other areas of excellence, the printer’s alternating three- and four-day work weeks as well as its onsite childcare and fitness centers.

Candidate companies are rated on two criteria: an evaluation of company policies and culture, and the opinions of each company’s employees. The latter is given more weight; two-thirds of the overall score is based on employee responses to a 57-question survey given to 400 randomly selected employees. The survey addresses attitudes toward management, job satisfaction and camaraderie within the organization. The remaining one-third of the score is based on an evaluation of each company’s demographic makeup, pay and benefits programs, and culture, with companies scoring points for credibility (communication to employees), respect (opportunities and benefits), fairness (compensation, diversity), and pride/camaraderie (philanthropy, celebrations).

Nearly 450 companies participated in this year’s competition. To be eligible, companies had to be at least 7 years old and have a minimum of 1,000 employees.

Quad/Graphics shares the prestigious honor with other well-known companies such as Google, Nordstrom, Microsoft, Wegmans Food Markets, Starbucks, Capital One and Nike, as well as Wisconsin-based companies Robert W. Baird and S.C. Johnson & Son.
