Presstek Signs Partnership with German Dealer, Heinrich Baumann

May 2008
HUDSON, NH—May 19, 2008—Presstek, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRST), the leading manufacturer and marketer of digital offset printing business solutions, has announced the appointment of Heinrich Baumann Grafisches Centrum GmbH & Co. KG as its new German dealer. Based in Frankfurt/Main, the widely known and respected partner and distributor for prepress, print, finishing equipment and related services in the graphic arts industry will focus on the distribution of the Presstek 52DI and 34DI digital offset presses in large sections of Germany.

“When Peter U. Blum, Presstek’s Senior Advisor for European Operations, approached us about offering these presses to our customers, we were thrilled,” said Christian Baumann, Managing Director of Heinrich Baumann Grafisches Centrum in Frankfurt. “With 80 percent of the four-color printing market requiring print quantities of 5,000 or less, the Presstek DI provides the ideal solution for bridging the gap between conventional offset presses and digital toner-based devices. The DI offers the advantages of waterless offset while at the same time delivering speed, quality and, last but not least, environmental responsibility. These are all important considerations to printing businesses in Germany. In other words, Presstek DI offers customers an effective and highly profitable solution compared to other technologies on the market,” added Baumann.

Presstek’s highly automated sheetfed, four-color digital offset presses offer one of the most profitable solutions for quick turnaround, short-run high quality color printing. DI presses do not require separate prepress systems since the chemistry-free plates are imaged directly on the press. The Presstek DI offers one of the lowest costs per sheet at run lengths of 500 to 10,000, which offers a key advantage since 80 percent of the color printing market is 5,000 impressions or less, according to Dr. Joe Webb. In addition, more jobs can be delivered in less time with the DI’s ability to go from digital file to sellable color within 10 minutes while delivering up to 300 lpi and stochastic screening – without incurring additional time or expense.

Announcing the appointment, Ray Hillhouse, Director of Sales and Operations for Presstek Europe, commented, “Germany is the largest market in western Europe so our choice of partners here was a critical one. We regard Heinrich Baumann as a very strong asset for Presstek. Our new partner combines a strong customer base with in-depth knowledge of the graphic arts industry and a highly professional approach to customer care. I am confident that Heinrich Baumann will play a key role in supporting our European growth strategy, and we look forward to their support at drupa, the world’s largest trade show for the graphic arts market.”
