Printers Choose Heidelberg Solutions to Upgrade, Streamline Operations

July 30, 2010

Kingery Printing, a heatset web and large-format sheetfed printer specializing in color printing and mailing of catalogs, has been saving on makeready and giving quality a boost with a new Heidelberg Speedmaster 52 with Anicolor inking technology.

“Our waste is low and our changeovers are extremely fast,” said Tom Kingery, president. And while Kingery typically uses the small-format SM 52 to handle runs from 1,000 to 10,000 sheets, “we’re also selling the machine on its long-run capabilities,” he added.

Family owned and operated since 1968, Kingery Printing serves a broad client base focused in the Midwest, and distributes product nationwide. The company, a Heidelberg shop since the beginning, currently operates a Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102, a Speedmaster SM 102, a Stitchmaster ST 400, and three Polar paper cutting systems. It also utilizes a range of Heidelberg Saphira consumables, including inks and blankets.

Over the years, Kingery Printing has come to rely on the prompt customer service it receives from Heidelberg. “Heidelberg builds some of the best equipment in the world. The fact that it also backs those products 100 percent is one of the reasons we continue to buy from them,” Kingery said.

Vital Printing Slips into Higher Gear with Suprasetter A75 Install

Vital Printing, a high-quality general commercial printer in West Palm Beach, FL, has installed a Suprasetter A75 automated top-loading CtP device with Prinect Prepress Manager workflow. The new platesetter, which replaces the company’s existing violet Prosetter, uses Heidelberg Saphira Chemfree thermal plates, runs unattended and has yielded noticeable improvements in speed and quality on press. According to prepress coordinator Ron Ross, “There’s no more manual feeding, roll-up is quick and easy, and our pressmen have very few issues getting color and water up on press.”

“Awesome” is the word Ross uses to describe Heidelberg’s Prinect Prepress Manager workflow. The new workflow enables central control of all prepress work steps with transfer of presetting data to Vital’s pressroom, which is home to a 4-color Printmaster 74 perfector and two Printmaster QM 46-2s. In addition to Saphira Chemfree plates, the company also uses a variety of pressroom consumables, including fountain foils, blanket wash rolls and assorted accessories for the QM46 presses. Vital’s bindery hosts a number of 20x28” Stahlfolders and a 42” Polar guillotine cutter with jogger, three stacklifts, two VSAs, high-speed hydraulic drilling capabilities and assorted banding equipment. Final finishing is complimented by Vital’s 30-bin collator/booklet maker and perfect bound book binder.

With 8 employees and serving a diverse regional customer base, Vital Printing has been in business since 1980. “We’re a small, nimble, tight-knit family group that works well together and gets the job done,” Ross said. Heidelberg quality is a linchpin of the company’s success, he added, and “service has been second-to-none.”

Why Mess with Success: Admore, Inc. Installs Second QM 46 Press

When Admore, Inc., Macomb, MI, needed a workhorse press to replace an existing, nine-year-old Printmaster QM 46-2 from Heidelberg, it simply bought another. A specialty printer of presentation folders and related products, Admore had logged more than 75 million impressions on the older press before trading up to the new model. Expectations are that the new press will establish an enviable track record of its own, turning out a variety of high-quality small-format document and wallet folders Admore sells through dealers and resellers nationwide. “This particular machine fits our product line to the ‘t’, said Bill Tignanelli, general manager. The company also operates a Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 6-color press, yet another Printmaster QM 46-2, as well as a 57” Polar 137 paper cutter, and utilizes a variety of Saphira pressroom consumables.

Admore, Inc. is a subsidiary of Ennis, Inc., with a smaller sister facility located in Anaheim, Calif. The company employs 81.

ECO Folder-Gluer Lends Oomph to Flower City Printing’s Finishing Lineup

Flower City Printing, Rochester, NY, has added capacity to its finishing capabilities with the installation of a 41” ECO 105 folder-gluer from Heidelberg. The company, which specializes in retail signage, POP, POS, folding cartons, litho labels, packaging and kit-packing/fulfillment, was impressed with the ECO 105’s productivity—up to 50,000 lockbottom cartons per hour—as well as with its flexibility to process lock- and double-wall boxes, along with four- and six-corner cartons. According to Director of Marketing Tina Beauchemin, the ease of use and fast makereadies enabled by the new folder-gluer are also a big plus for the handling of frequent job changeovers needed to process multiple short runs from 5,000 to 50,000 pieces.

“The ECO 105 has become a valuable addition to our folding and gluing operation due to its ability to handle a wide range of folding configurations and sizes,” said Kevin Neureuter, Director of Operations.

Established in 1970 and with annual sales revenue in the $60 million range, Flower City operates three facilities in the Rochester area employing a total of around 285 employees.
