Bookkeeper Accused of Stealing Nearly $600K

March 26, 2010
COLUMBUS, OH—The ex-bookkeeper of Nutis Press (NPI) has been indicted for allegedly pilfering $597,000 from the company's owner during a three-plus year period. The Columbus Dispatch reported that Joy Nutt, 41, was indicted on one felony count of theft for stealing from NPI, but company spokesman David George told Printing Impressions that the funds were actually taken from the personal accounts of owner Frank Nutis, who passed away in January.

NPI fired Nutt, who is scheduled to be arraigned April 2, early in 2009. According to the newspaper, a police investigation revealed that she had written out checks to herself, others and to cash between 2006 and 2009. Nutt faces a maximum eight years in prison if convicted, a $15,000 fine and she may be ordered to pay restitution.
