Centenarian Printer Continues to Evolve

BARBERTON, OH—Davis Printing is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The company was founded in 1906 by John R. Davis., who produced a weekly newspaper and provided printing services to the public. Today, the full-service commercial printer offers sheetfed offset and digital printing, complete bindery, mailing and fulfillment, and Web-based services.

Recently, Davis Printing also acquired Merrick Graphics. Steve Merrick was named Davis Printing’s vice president of marketing and president of the new creative division, Merrick Design Group.

ALABAMA
MONTGOMERY—Wells Printing has installed a Sakurai 675SD sheetfed press with coater. It was purchased through dealer Independent Graphic Services.

CALIFORNIA
CITY OF INDUSTRY—Modem Graphics, a 90-employee printer and graphic services provider, recently installed a Mitsubishi Diamond 3000S sheetfed press equipped with an aqueous coater, its second six-color, 40˝ Diamond series press in six months.

MONTEBELLOWet Ink Printing is now running a Ryobi 3404 DI waterless offset press for short-run and quick turnaround jobs. The company also reports it is using EFI’s BestColor RIP and an Epson 7800 Pro proofer for color calibration to the DI press.

TORRANCEThe Martin Press has added a five-color Komori Lithrone 28 (NL528) sheetfed press with coater. This is the company’s second Komori.

COLORADO
DENVER—Warneke Paper Box is now producing jobs on its new eight-color Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 with coater and full UV capabilities. The specialty printer’s 68 employees produce packaging materials for clients in the pharmaceutical, medical, food and cosmetic industries.

GEORGIA
NORCROSS—Trade printer Custom Color Printing & Graphics suffered a plant fire in its production area in April. Its five-color, 19x26˝ Polly 566 press was severely damaged, but no one was injured and little damage was done to the other production equipment. In August, the company installed a six-color Komori press, ECRM Mako 4 platesetter and in-line processor to replace the damaged equipment.

ILLINOIS
ELK GROVE VILLAGE—Paulson Press, a full-service general commercial printer, recently added a six-color Speedmaster XL 105 to its all-
Heidelberg pressroom.

INDIANA
CROWN POINT—Kwik Copy has purchased a Sakurai 466SI press from dealer Fuller Grafix.

MICHIGAN
TROY—J&M Reproductions is now running a Sakurai 466SIP press, purchased through dealer Mid-State Litho.
