SYRACUSE, IN—The Image Group recently achieved its 100 millionth impression on one of its six-color Akiyama offset presses. The sheetfed press, shown here with Bob McKee (left) of Akiyama and James Plummer Sr., president and CEO of The Image Group, was installed in 1986.
HENRIETTA, NY—Tucker Printers has installed a new Heidelberg Speedmaster CD-102-6+LX at its facility here. With the press are (from the left) Dan Tucker, president of Tucker Printers, and Whitey Link, sales representative for Heidelberg USA.
SPRINGDALE—The Morning News has purchased a TECSA 2470 copydot scanner from Graphic Enterprises Inc. (GEI).
SAN Diego—Dam Bindery has installed a Minuteman saddle stitching line from Muller Martini. Dam Bindery serves the San Diego and Southern California area with trade bindery services.
VENTURA—Jano Graphics has purchased a Presto saddle stitching line from Muller Martini. Jano Graphics, serving Southern California since 1976, offers complete in-house electronic prepress, pressroom and bindery services. It specializes in color sheetfed and web printing of brochures, presentation folders, catalogs, data sheets, instruction manuals and packaging.
DAYTONA BEACH—The News-Journal has purchased Graphic Enterprises Inc.’s (GEI) Ink Manager for ink presetting. Ink Manager automatically calculates ink density values and passes digital information over to the press.
LONGWOOD—Consolidated Label has launched an expansion project that will include construction of a 3,000-square-foot mezzanine and the addition of an eight-color, 10˝ flexographic press. The new mezzanine area will be used for storage and supplies.
CHICAGO—Black Box Collotype, based here, was named the Millennium Sappi North American Printer of the Year at a gala awards presentation held in South Africa on September 9. Michael Intrator of Black Box received the award for the book “En Passant: Black & White Photographs by Dennis Manarchy,” which was printed on Sappi Fine Paper’s Lustro Dull.
SCHAUMBURG—Pac-West Label and Graphics, of Torrance, CA, has joined the Impaxx Labels and Packaging Network, headquartered here. The purchase of the privately held company was completed on September 25. The company’s current management will remain in place under the new ownership. Other terms of the sale were not disclosed.
