The final chapter in a 72-year-old family business is being written today with a bankruptcy auction held at the former Thames Printing Co. in Norwich, CT. Guilford-based Thomas Industries Inc. began the auction around 10:30 a.m. About 50 people were on site early in the bidding as Gagliardi and Johnstonbaugh wheeled around the plant on movable platforms.
Thames shut down in August amid mounting debts, including back taxes, and thinning business. Its owner, Neil Blinderman, whose family started the business in 1929, is the defendant in several legal actions.
Thomas purchased the inventory, furniture, fixtures, vehicles, machinery and equipment for $700,000
