Paperboard Mill in Sprague, CT, Closing in September, Leaving More Than 140 Without Jobs
Fusion Paperboard, Sprague’s (CT) largest employer, is closing its doors in September, laying off more than 140 people, town leaders and a top labor official confirmed to The Bulletin on Wednesday.
"The company has determined there is not enough market share or pricing available for paper making that they can sustain the plant," First Selectman Cathy Osten said. "This is going to be a very fluid situation over the next few weeks."
Osten, who met with company officials Wednesday morning, said the plant has set a Sept. 22 closure date and has issued a 60-day notice to all employees.
