Andy Surface, 57, who moved to Kemah (TX) from Alvin last fall, said the (Condé Nast) scam was perpetrated by an “old man that got my phone number off Craigslist and stole my identity.” He declined to identify the man, who Surface said was under federal investigation. His claim could not be confirmed by officials at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York, who declined to comment on the case.
“He (mystery man) called me last year, he said he was a Seattle businessman who had 20 businesses and was looking for folks to invest,” Surface said.
