QW-RRD Nonstarter Offers No Fodder for Tabloid
The magazine publishing world would have squealed at an RRD-QW marriage. Still, there’s Quad and Brown, Transcontinental, Fry...these guys ain’t strip mall Kinko’s shops. A lot of these companies have the capability to handle the distro needs of a major publisher. But while RRD would have been the Godfather of the magazine set, there would've been a sufficient amount of other pub printing wise guys to “take care of that thing.” Actually, the reduced capacity that would have ultimately resulted from Donnelley carving up Quebecor would probably have had the juice to sustain price increases, which would have benefitted all players in the publications sector. Imagine that.
So there the interviews with the antitrust lawyers sit on my recording device, obsolete, dead on the vine. It’s irrelevant now, and we can kiss goodbye the one opportunity to truly divert out attention away from the crappy economic news that overstayed its welcome three months ago.
Oh well. Enjoy the silent summer.
