The Sales Rollercoaster.
Everything that happens to you in sales is going to happen again.
Everything.
Sales is a series of high-highs and low-lows and (here’s the money line) everything is temporary. Remember that and you’ll save yourself a ton of angst.
Let’s say you are killing it, sales-wise. For some unknown reason it is raining business. Every phone call you answer results in an order. You win most every bid you enter. There are simply not enough hours in the day.
And then, that plane lands and it is over.
The doldrums hit and your sail has no wind to push your sale boat. And it continues tomorrow. And the next day. And the next.
And then, the wind kicks up and you take off once again.
While this seems obvious, it is important to remember because the emotion surrounding these two extremes can be debilitating, especially the latter.
You’re on a high? Great. Congrats. Work to make it last. Celebrate it. But remember that this, too, shall pass.
In a slump? Have faith. You can sell yourself out of this hole. Just focus on the four keys to sales success (make a high-value sales call to the right target market applying a prospecting process with diligence and persistency) and the results will take care of themselves.
