You can pay anything from tens to hundreds of dollars for motivation. Like a Personal Trainer who is certified to stand over you with a cup of coffee and count backwards from 20, for example. They push you to succeed and encourage you every step of the way to do the things that you know you should do and could do without their help.
Managers want success from their salespeople, yet there is a negative tone to their words: “Did you sell anything today?” “Where were you this morning?” “Why aren’t you selling more?”
In the manager’s mind, they believe they are being motivating. To the sales rep, however, those statements sting and are one of the reasons why they stay out of the office when things aren’t going well.
True motivation is more pure than this. It can come in the form of a note that sits on the sales rep’s desk and awaits his/her arrival. It’s simple message catapults the rep into the stratosphere and the best part of it is, it’s free.
Do you believe in your salesperson? Do you want his/her success? Do you think that he/she is capable? If the answer to any or all of these questions is, “Yes,” then why not tell the rep in the form of a handwritten note?
Self-doubt is the prevailing emotion within each salesperson. Managers can eliminate this debilitating factor with the stroke of a pen.
So, get writing already!
