Okay, so I'm sitting here wadding up one paper after another these past few hours, trying to write the world's most profoundly motivating message that might finally convince certain business owners to get off their steeped-in-chaos hindquarters, and move things to the next level!
I keep wondering...
When I am thoroughly convinced that every business on the planet needs well-planned quality control systems in their operations...
WHY do so many owners choose to endure PAIN on a daily basis?
WHAT could I possibly say to convince them, that without written processes for their day-to-day operations, they are doomed to endure longer and longer hours, stress, errors, lost revenue, rework, sleepless nights, tears, internal backbiting, dissatisfied customers—two steps forward and three steps back?
Our company has helped many owners get started on the road to freedom from "business as usual" methods—coaching them on how to systemize all areas of their businesses, in order to have more time to enjoy a personal life, and work on growing, not just wrestling to maintain their company.
WHY won't they pay the price for the peace and order they say they want in their businesses, and can experience, when all systems are GO?
If I knew the answer to all that, I'd bottle it up and start hanging out with other billionaires.
However, thinking out loud...
MAYBE they're down in the dumps from the last six years of our country's economy, and are ready to throw in the towel!
MAYBE they're tired, or can't face the truth that although they own a business, they haven't yet learned the art of leadership?
MAYBE they've succumbed to today's political correctness and are afraid of offending some, by setting quality standards in their business?
MAYBE they're feeling old and are just waiting to retire, so they can get away from the stress and forget it ever happened—maybe thinking to hand the business off to their children and let them deal with it now?
MAYBE they've come to the conclusion there's no HOPE of ever obtaining their dream of financial freedom, or even just freedom to get away from the office without worrying it will fall apart?
MAYBE they think they're not smart enough to bring their business to order, so "Who gives a rip, anyway!?"
Or, MAYBE they are procrastinators and just never finish anything!
MAYBE they thought running a business was going to be simpler, but have since buried their head in the sand, thinking that will make it easier?
MAYBE they feel inferior to other business owners—after all, they never had a college education in business, and weren't born with that silver spoon thing.
MAYBE they belong to "the cup is half empty" crowd!
MAYBE they're just unable to admit they don't know everything, so they pretend that EVERYTHING is "normal."
MAYBE they have personal problems, even certain addictions, keeping them from reaching their once-hoped-for dreams.
You know...MAYBE there are some things that are beyond Philip's reach, as a system's guy, no matter how much I want to help those who work so hard, and just don't want to hear the enthusiastic cheerleading of a guy who knows what it's like to have been many of those things, but was fortunate enough to find a better way?
MAYBE they'll allow me to suggest they talk it over with that Friend who sticks closer than a brother, to get to the bottom, as to "WHY?"
For those who have ears...
Did I mention? Great systems work!
