Do you like your job? Do you like what you do?
I am one of those annoying people who cannot wait to get the day going, so I bound out of bed and fight the urge to head to the computer immediately.
If you don't like your job, it's probably because your boss is a jerk and customers are annoying and you don't get along with your coworkers and every day is like the day before.
Those are all on the long list of things you can blame.
But if you don't like your job, it's probably because you have done nothing to change yourself and, in turn, your approach to the work you do.
Matthew McConaughey, in his Academy Award speech a couple of years ago, told the audience that he was once asked, "Who is your hero?" He gave this considerable thought and two weeks later returned with an answer: "Me, in five years." His point was well taken: Improve yourself and reach for a higher level.
Six months from now, you could be far happier with your job simply by challenging yourself to change. If you ever notice the people—annoying as we are—who absolutely love their job, it's not because we love doing the same thing over and over again. It's because we change the job constantly. We change our approach to it.
People who hate their job do the same thing day after day without ever believing that it's in their power to change anything. They bring the same approach and the same attitude to the tasks at hand. Subsequently, the results are the same. Not hard to see that boredom is bound to follow.
But set out to improve and a new you arrives for work each day. The tasks might be the same, but the approach you bring to them varies and with it, the results.
Who do you want to be six months from now? What do you need to do in order to get there?
Change yourself. Change your attitude. Change who you are. Change the outcome.
