Brown Printing will eliminate about 200 jobs across its network of plants, accounting for roughly 8 percent of its workforce, according to the Business Journal of McHenry County (IL). A representative of the printer told the newspaper that the move was prompted by dwindling orders from its customers.

WASECA, MN—Brown Printing has been awarded a $90 million-plus multi-year contract to produce the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) catalog and circular programs. The agreement builds upon an 18-year relationship between Brown and AAFES, which is a multi-channel retailer that offers products to authorized customers via catalog, retail stores and online. The programs include catalogs and a weekly circular offering 30,000 items to its customer base.

Brown Printing Co. today announced the expansion of their co-mail capacity and capabilities through a strategic vested partnership with ALG Worldwide Logistics and their sister company Print and Mailing Solutions (PAMS).

Though caution is key in what will most likely be a light ad market for certain portions of the publications segment, the powerful micro-publishing push and a moderate softening of paper prices should make 1999 one very vibrant year.
