The typical landscape for U.S. printing industry trade shows today is dotted with smaller booths, fewer attendees and less equipment on display. But that wasn't the case at the recent 2014 SGIA Expo held at the Las Vegas Convention Center October 22-24. SGIA set not one, but two, new records: largest attended SGIA Expo ever, with 25,500 registered attendees; and most exhibitors, with 541 exhibitors filling 223,000 square feet of floor space.
Canon and HP's wide-format devices have won Pick and Outstanding Achievement Awards from Buyers Laboratory (BLI). Among the winning devices selected in Canon U.S.A.'s wide-format lineup are imagePROGRAF iPF680/685, imagePROGRAF iPF780/785 and imagePROGRAF iPF785 MFP M40 printers. HP's winning devices include the HP Designjet Z5400 PostScript ePrinter and HP Rear Stacker Design.
Expanding its portfolio, Orlando, FL-based SunDance Marketing Solutions has installed an HP Latex 3000 industrial printer, purchased at GRAPH EXPO 14. SunDance is a longtime HP Indigo customer, but many factors influenced its decision to purchase the HP Latex 3000, including the printer's ability to print on a broad range of substrates with industry-leading quality.
The winners of the Golden Image Competition and the Tom Frecska Student Printing Competition were honored at the SGIA Expo in Las Vegas last month. Award recipients were chosen for achieving imaging excellence and displaying exceptional expertise in their field.
At the ReproMAX 30th anniversary conference recently held in Las Vegas, Capital Imaging of Lansing, MI, and Beeline and Blue of Des Moines, IA, were selected as Partners of the Year; and HP was named Vendor of the Year.
Attendees from around the world packed the Fujifilm booth at SGIA Expo 2014 to see all-new technology. Fujifilm was showing off the all-new Inca Onset R40i and the Acuity F printers, each making their North American debut on the show floor, along with the Uvistar Pro-8W, the Acuity Advance Select and the Acuity LED 1600.
This year's SGIA Product of the Year competition was held at the 2014 Expo in Las Vegas, October 22-24. The contest showcased the best printers, technologies and consumables from the specialty imaging community. "Whether they were a seasoned company or an industry newcomer, each and every entry came to win," said Ray Weiss, SGIA’s digital imaging specialist.
Mutoh America was the recipient of Specialty Graphic Imaging Association's (SGIA) Product of the Year award for the 104" ValueJet 2638 grand-format printer in the Test Print Shoot Out Poster Size, Solvent or Latex Ink over 96" category.
The Jeti Titan HS wide-format inkjet printing system, from Agfa Graphics, has been selected as "Product of the Year" at the 2014 SGIA Expo in Las Vegas. Altogether, the competition compared 139 entries from 68 companies in 25 different categories. "We are extremely pleased to have been selected for this prestigious award," commented Deborah Hutcheson, director of marketing, Agfa Graphics, North America.
A Mimaki grand-format inkjet printer has been added to Coloredge's array of wide-format presses in response to the rising popularity of upscale soft graphics. Fabric based dye sublimation is widely used for indoor/outdoor graphics and displays, where the printed fabric can be back-lit, if desired.
