“We ran the Vs3 inks on a consistent basis, doing a lot of reruns,” says Lance Johnson, prepress and pressroom manager. “The month-to-month consistency in brightness and shading was remarkable—in fact, it was unusually high for any ink. Even if we had to rerun a project months later, color consistency was not a problem. Additionally, we can achieve our goal of running a thinner ink film on the press, reducing the amount of ink needed and speeding the drying process.”
The Marek Group also produces pre-printed shells for direct marketing jobs with variable data. The company reports that the Vs3 ink can easily withstand the transition from running four, five or six colors on the offset press to the higher temperatures required of a digital press. Typically, this procedure requires printers to “doctor” their ink, or modify the ink’s chemical properties to withstand the higher temperatures.
The VS line is designed to fulfill printers’ individual job requirements. These highly specialized inks are an excellent match for The Marek Group, which offers customized print and fulfillment options for each job. “We promote a very optimistic atmosphere,” notes Fuzzy Marek. “There’s no project we won’t turn down, and we’re driven to exceed expectations with fast turnaround and specialty finishing.”
The Van Son customer service team also provided The Marek Group with full support since adopting its ink. “Van Son personnel have flown out here and helped us resolve issues with our presses—within hours. They’ve helped us work out technical solutions that are unrelated to their inks, and even helped us get an overnight color match on a shade produced at a different printer.” PI
