Snyder Printer, a Commercial Print Shop in Troy, NY, Celebrates 120 Years as a Family-Owned Business
TROY, NY—January 19, 2015—Snyder Printer, a family-owned commercial printing firm based here, is celebrating its 120th year in business, reported Time Warner Cable News.
Walter Snyder founded Walter Snyder Printer in 1895 with only $800 on River Street, which despite moving several times, has never left River Street.
Today, the all Heidelberg-press shop has 22 employees—with some being fifth generation employees—and produces a wide variety of high-quality collateral pieces for businesses, colleges and organizations. According to the the company's Website, it has been a member of OSHA SHARP for the last 10 years and has met or exceeded all of the OSHA regulations for health and safety. It is one of three printers in all of New York to earn this recognition.
"I remember, as a little girl, a man sitting in front of a type machine setting lead type," recalled Snyder Printer President Dona Reardon, great-granddaughter of Walter Snyder. "Lead type gave way, then linotype, then we went to film and now we're strictly metal plates. It's just amazing where the technology is going and with addition of digital, it's a whole new world."
According to Time Warner Cable News, Reardon said that she has no fear that a digital world will slow down the presses. "People want tangible. People want to touch and feel and our results are coming back that print is actually growing and we hope it continues."
Reardon added that she hopes it continues at least for another 120 years, and more.
