How PRINTING United Expo Simplified the Offset Decision Process for Range Printing
In an effort to find out why past attendees traveled to PRINTING United Expo in 2025 and 2024 and to discover why they made investment decisions while at the Expo, we reached out to them to find out more.

Printing Impressions (PI): Why did you attend PRINTING United Expo?
Shawn Sundquist: We attended PRINTING United Expo to evaluate press technology, workflow integration, and automation capabilities firsthand. The Expo allows us to compare equipment and production workflows, discuss real production requirements directly with manufacturers, and better understand how new solutions will integrate into our existing operation.
PI: What product or service did you buy (or finalize) while at the Expo?
Sundquist: At the Expo, we discussed details related to a potential investment in an RMGT 970 eight‑color press. We also evaluated long perfecting configurations in relation to both our current and future workloads, focusing on automation benefits and potential cost savings. Since we already operate two RMGT LED‑UV presses with automation, our goal was to continue driving higher efficiency and consistency across our production floor. In addition, we intentionally reviewed every area of our business—from sales tools to shipping and fulfillment — to identify solutions that will replace not only aging equipment, but aging workflows as well. Automation is a key focus across our entire operation.
PI: Were you intending to make any purchases (or finalize an agreement) prior to going to the Expo?
Sundquist: No. While we were already evaluating equipment prior to attending, we did not go into the Expo intending to finalize a press purchase. However, being at the show helped simplify the decision process. Although the RMGT 970 was not running live, the conversations we had with the RMGT team at the Expo helped clarify technical capabilities and align expectations. Those discussions led to a “handshake" understanding at the show and carried over into more detailed follow‑up conversations once we returned home, where the decision was finalized.
PI: You just recently installed the RMGT 970. Why did you make the decision to make this investment? What applications or segments is it serving?
Sundquist: We selected the RMGT 970 eight‑color press based on past performance, print quality, reliability, and overall cost of ownership. The platform delivers stable color, speed, and efficient makereadies, making it well suited for our commercial print market applications where repeatability and turnaround time are critical.
PI: Since installation, what are some of the benefits you’ve seen?
Sundquist: Since installation, we’ve experienced significantly faster makeready times, consistent color from job to job, and improved uptime. The press integrates well with our existing workflow, allowing for smoother scheduling and more predictable production output. Overall, we are producing work more than twice as fast as before.
PI: What are the benefits of attending trade shows, such as the Expo?
Sundquist: Trade shows provided hands‑on access to equipment, direct technical discussions with manufacturers, and insight from other printers running similar platforms. That combination helps us validate specifications, understand real‑world performance, and make more informed capital investment decisions. One of the biggest benefits, however, is the open discussion with peers — especially around shared challenges like workforce shortages, and AI technologies. This is not the first time we have purchased at the show and will not be the last!
