Newspaper Opts for Goss Insert Control Technology
LAS VEGAS—The Las Vegas Review-Journal has chosen control technology from Goss International to update and integrate its packaging operation, which processes an average of 12 million preprinted inserts per week.
The paper is adding Goss Omnizone supervisory controls and equipping four existing Goss NP630 inserters with latest-generation Goss Omnicon controls and downstream control technology. The PC-based Omnicon inserter controls are designed to support advanced micro-zoning and selective inserting capabilities.
Omnizone supervisory controls include modules to manage advertising orders, production planning, inventory and automatic downloading of production data to the inserting and packaging components.
Donnelley Vegas Bolsters Cutting Output by 50 Percent
LAS VEGAS—RR Donnelley’s commercial printing facility here recently upgraded its cutting department with the addition of a Polar 137 XT programmable cutter equipped with RA-4 jogger, Quartzell scale and Dorner waste delivery system. The new cutter replaces an older machine and was installed to expedite cutting jobs and boost the company’s bindery output.
According to Plant Manager Robert Stanke, the new Polar has improved cutting productivity by 50 percent or more. Stanke also feels the telephone support provided by Heidelberg has been “a huge help.”
