PRIMIR Announces Lineup of New Research Studies, Unveils PRIMIR 2.0 Tool
RESTON, Va. — February 29, 2016 — PRIMIR, the Print Industries Market Information and Research Organization, the research unit of NPES, announced the launch of five new research studies slated for completion within the next 12 months. Also now being unveiled is the new "PRIMIR 2.0" strategy, resulting from recent PRIMIR strategic planning meetings, which is designed to provide members with new research studies faster along with a variety of delivery formats.

North American Food Packaging Compliance: Impact on the Printing Industry – LPC was commissioned to complete this mini-study. The migration of chemicals that affect food or its consumer long been a concern in the food packaging industry and has recently become a focal point. All companies in the food packaging value chain need an understanding of the impact their role plays in the final packaged product. Likewise, printers and converters as well as ink, coating, adhesive and substrates suppliers and other firms in the print value chain need a better understanding of food packaging regulations, trends and the impact on the printing/packaging industries. This study will focus on "critical risks" and needs in order to provide real value in risk reduction to suppliers, converters and brand owners.
Digital Printing Technology's Influence on the U.S. In-Plant Printing Market – IDC was contracted to provide data on the current state of in-plants in the U.S. and utilization of digital printing. Growth in digital printing technology has not only had a big impact on how traditional print service providers produce products, but it also provides an opportunity for corporations, brand owners and manufacturers to quickly and inexpensively produce some printed materials in-house. This full study will investigate this market and provide insights into opportunities for traditional manufacturers of equipment and supplies. It will investigate their equipment decision-making process, including how they purchase their digital printing and finishing equipment, types of products produced (and what is printed in-house versus outsourced), installed base, and more.
Coatings Market in North America by Applications and by Chemistry – Karstedt Partners will analyze the use of coatings in North America (U.S. and Canada) in this mini-study. Coatings have become a major topic for aesthetic and practical innovations. Barrier coatings, aesthetic effects and protection characteristics are key to securing business. Brand owners are increasingly demanding of converters and printers in an effort to differentiate their products in an ever more crowded marketplace. This study will provide a broad overview of the roles and responsibilities of the North American (U.S. and Canada) brand owner in today's print business environment. It will also evaluate the amount of influence brand owners have relative to printing processes, substrates and more.
These studies will be completed in the summer of 2016 and presented at the PRIMIR Summer Meeting, June 22-24 in Denver, Colo.
World-Wide Market for Print 2.0 – Packaging – NPES/PRIMIR has commissioned The Economist Intelligence Unit once again to complete this study. It will focus exclusively on Packaging. The geographical scope will be 25 countries for market sizing and forecasts, with six countries selected for "deep-dive analysis" – all identified as the largest markets or fastest growing countries to provide critical market intelligence needs. This study will show the benchmark baseline 2011/2012 – 2015/2016 data and annual five-year forecasts through 2020/2021, with extrapolation for global market sizing, as appropriate, for the print market sectors and sub-sectors.
This study, along with topics on in-line finishing and MIS/ERP, will be completed in the fall of 2016 and presented at the NPES 2016 Annual Conference and PRIMIR Winter Meeting (date and location to be announced).
