Next Quebecor World Mega-facility--Buffalo
Printing capacity for newspaper inserts and circulars will increase by approximately 50 percent through the addition of two wide-web gravure presses.
The project has already begun and Quebecor World officials expect it will be completed by the end of the year. A manufacturing transition team has also been put in place to ensure a smooth transition of work to the Buffalo plant.
New York State and Erie County officials, who helped secure important financial incentives, expressed satisfaction with Quebecor's plans. New York Gov. George Pataki notes that the project reflects "our commitment to work together with business, [and] also demonstrates what can be accomplished when the state, labor unions and private industry work together."
Erie County Executive Joel A. Giambra, whose administration will provide tax exemptions and other assistance totalling $1 million, says he asked both Quebecor management and labor to spread the word about the new business climate in Western New York. "We stand ready to facilitate investment, especially by companies that already know the value of our Erie County workforce," notes Giambra.
