A ‘Greener’ Joseph Merritt Co. to Remain in Danbury, CT
DANBURY, CT—Sept. 13, 2011—Nicknamed “the Gateway to New England,” Danbury, CT, is home to over 2,500 businesses. For more than three decades, Joseph Merritt Co. has been a proud member of this community. From 1977-1991, the printing, imaging and graphics center operated on Backus Avenue. A move to Mill Plain Road followed in 1991, and approximately twenty years later, the company has opted to remain in Danbury with its latest relocation. As of September 2011, Joseph Merritt Company can be found at 4 Christopher Columbus Avenue.
On staying in Danbury, Ed Perry, president and CEO of Joseph Merritt, confirmed the intent was never to leave. “We have been a part of Danbury for 34 plus years. We enjoy this community and enjoy giving back.” For over 20 years, Merritt has been a gold sponsor and participant in the Ann Olsen Greater Danbury Golf Classic. The Golf classic raises funds for Ann’s Place, The Home of I CAN which provides comfort and support to people living with cancer and to their loved ones.
Precipitated by Joseph Merritt’s goals to improve customer service and operate a more energy efficient operation, the move to Christopher Columbus Ave. allows the company to satisfy both aims while maintaining a base in Danbury. Perry said the move was for numerous reasons, but bottom line was the new location is more efficient and offers better accessibility. It is a convenient spot for residents of Fairfield and Litchfield counties as well as western NY. Perry says, “The opportunity presented itself to run our operations in a greener way and increase convenience for our customer base.
This move is one of several steps Merritt has taken to reduce its carbon footprint. Recycling, adding the use of latex ink, and having a peak load energy partnership with CL&P are other notable efforts being made as the company strives to improve and expand services with greater efficiency and reduced impact on the environment.
The new location is closer to Interstate 84 making it easier for customers to get to and from the store and maintains the same capable staff to welcome and assist visitors. The Danbury office houses state of the art printing equipment, copiers, and printer supplies. In addition to the digital printing services, Merritt Scanning, a division of Joseph Merritt Co. dealing with document technologies and management, will have a base at this location.
