Johnny Depp and Harper Launching New Book Publishing Imprint
NEW YORK—Oct. 15, 2012—Johnny Depp has partnered with Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, to launch Infinitum Nihil. Depp will publish titles that reflect his diverse interests and passions. Infinitum Nihil will be a home for authentic, outspoken and visionary ideas and voices, from authors both celebrated and unsung, beginning with author Doug Brinkley.
The list’s headlining title, acquired in a major deal, is “The Unraveled Tales of Bob Dylan” by Douglas Brinkley. Based on archival research and exclusive interviews with Dylan, the book will set the record straight on scores of issues pertaining to the rock-and-roll legend.
“Johnny and I thought the Dylan book was the ideal way to inaugurate the Infinitum Nihil series,” Brinkley said. “Bob has been very warm and forthcoming with us. His music has inspired us both deeply since we were teenagers.”
The book is tentatively scheduled to be published in 2015.
In January 2013, also in conjunction with Brinkley, Infinitum Nihil will publish legendary folk singer Woody Guthrie’s only fully realized novel, “House of Earth.” Guthrie completed the novel in 1947 but did not seek its publication. The manuscript remained in his archives for decades. Now, with the help of his daughter Nora Guthrie and the Woody Guthrie Foundation, this prophetic and powerful portrait of the Texas Panhandle in the 1930s will at last reach his legions of fans.
Guthrie’s story of private citizens contending with banks and corporate interests sharply resonates even today. An essay by Brinkley and Depp will introduce the novel.
Depp said about his new imprint: “I pledge, on behalf of Infinitum Nihil, that we will do our best to deliver publications worthy of peoples’ time, of peoples’ concern. Publications that might ordinarily never have breached the parapet. For this dream realized, we would like to salute HarperCollins for their faith in us and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship together.”
Harper’s publisher, Jonathan Burnham, echoed his enthusiasm. “We are thrilled to have a great talent like Johnny Depp adding his tastes and interests to our list. Already we look forward to the publications of two exceptional books, The Unraveled Tales of Bob Dylan and House of Earth, and anticipate equally compelling projects from Infinitum Nihil.”
