A few weeks ago, we talked about voicemail and I told you to see it as an audition. I also said that what was in your message was a sales tip to be named later. Well, campers, today’s that day...
Listen to the content of this message:
“Hi, Kelly. This is Bill Farquharson calling from Aspire For. I’d sent you a letter last week and promised to call you this week. Well, here I am! The purpose of my call is to talk with you about something I saw on your website. I understand that your company is participating in a trade show at the World Trade Center here in Boston in a couple of months and I wanted to speak with you about maximizing your ROI. My telephone number is (781) 934-7036. My name again is Bill Farquharson from Aspire For. And I will be calling you back before the week is out. Thanks!”
Now, compare it with this message:
“Hi, Kelly. This is Bill Farquharson calling from Aspire For. My telephone number is (781) 934-7036. My telephone number is (781) 934-7036 and my name is Bill Farquharson from Aspire For. And I will be calling you back before the week is out. Thanks!”
Which one do you think has a slightly better chance of getting a call back? Did you catch the subtle difference? No? I’ll give you a hint: Check the phone numbers. Still no? The difference between the two messages comes down to the placement of the phone number in message #2. There, I’ve put it at both the beginning and end.
Why?
So that in the event someone listens to my message and decides to save it for later, she/he doesn’t have to listen to the entire 35 second message (yes, I timed it) just to hear the 10-digit number.
It’s a subtle change and maybe, maybe a call back will occur as a result 1% of the time ... but that’s 1% more than you have right now!
