GRAPH EXPO® Expands Opportunities for Publication and Book Printing With Education, Resources and Special Events
RESTON, VA— August 6, 2007—In today’s digitally driven world, high-volume printing of books like Harry Potter is no longer the rule, it’s the exception - a reality underscored by the fact that over half of all commercial book titles produced between 2005 and 2006 were printed in quantities under 5,000 units.
“The trend toward short-run printing of books and bound documents is large and growing, and clearly points to a major opportunity for printers equipped to handle it,” said Ralph Nappi, President of the Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC®).
GRAPH EXPO, to be held September 9-12 at McCormick Place in Chicago, will showcase the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of graphic communications technologies in the Americas, covering all the latest innovations in offset, digital, flexo and wide format equipment, products and services. Within the total 460,000 net sq. ft. of exhibit space and among the nearly 600 exhibits, some 130,000 net sq. ft.-two and a half times more than the next largest digital print show in the United States-will be devoted to digital presses and related technologies.
“Our goal in creating this year’s program is to offer tangible value that attendees can put to use as soon as they return to the office,” said Ralph Nappi, President of GASC. “This year’s GRAPH EXPO offers a full line-up of educational seminars and market research presentations about printing books and bound documents, and will showcase live applications running throughout the show floor that will demonstrate how digitally printed books and bound documents can deliver new revenue opportunities for today’s printers,” he added.
GRAPH EXPO’s seminar program features a full range of sessions specifically geared to short-run digital publication printing led by recognized industry experts. Attendees can choose from sessions designed to provide practical tips and insights from cutting-edge subjects such as digital asset management (DAM), to understanding databases, to variable data printing (VDP) and web-to-print. Other session topics will range from color management tips and tricks for digital printing, to profiting from digital, and
on-demand printing services. Plus, eight hands-on computer labs led by design pros will instruct participants how to master the latest software solutions.
GRAPH EXPO will also feature two special themed events designed to help graphic communications professionals better understand and capitalize on new and rapidly expanding market segments. Aimed at nearly all types of print providers, “Books & Bound Documents Day” on Sunday, September 9, will showcase applications that demonstrate how digitally printed books and bound documents - from manuals and directories to training materials and consumer titles - can deliver lucrative new opportunities for today’s printers. Live demonstrations will include short-run and personalized book workflows and production solutions for both black-and-white and color applications.
On Tuesday, September 11, “Customer & Marketing Communications Day” will showcase technologies that feature direct marketing with transactional mail. In live applications run throughout the show floor, visitors will see and explore ways to create and produce powerful bills, statements, direct mail postcards and customer communications that can shift printing from cost center to profit center.
