Direct Mail Printer Is Part of FBI Legislative Investigation

HARTFORD, CT—George Gallo, the state House Republicans' chief of staff here, resigned as federal investigators are looking into whether Connecticut GOP legislative candidates were improperly directed to use a direct mail printer located in Florida.

The company, Clearwater, FL-based Direct Mail Systems, allegedly received upwards of $2 million worth of business from the candidates' campaigns since 2008, the Hartford Courant reported. The FBI has interviewed lawmakers who had paid for the services of Direct Mail Systems.

Gallo was involved in supervising several Republican legislative campaigns that used Direct Mail Systems. Since Gallo was mentioned as a "person of interest" in the investigation, he elected to step down from his $150,000-a-year job to avoid unwanted distractions to the caucus.

Direct Mail Systems CEO Mike Milligan reportedly did not return a call from the Courant seeking comment. But in a statement to the Tampa Bay Times, Milligan said his company is cooperating fully with the FBI in its investigation.

"We are unaware of the specifics of the FBI's probe as reported in the media, but we have been fully cooperative with the authorities in this Connecticut investigation and will continue to cooperate if asked," Milligan wrote.
