NEW YORK CITY--John Sateja, senior vice president for information products at Consumer Reports, the publishing arm of Consumers Union, will serve as keynote speaker at the 2006 BookTech and PrintMedia Conference & Expo, to be held March 20-22 in New York City.
Consumer Reports has more than 7 million combined paid subscribers to its various information products. Sateja oversees the publishing, editorial, technical and survey research divisions of the organization and has ultimate responsibility for all information products at Consumers Union, including Consumer Reports magazine and ConsumerReports.org (the world's largest publication-based subscription Web site), as well as several other Web sites, newsletters, books, special interest publications, a syndicated television news service, and a mobile phone application.
Sateja's direction has helped the multimedia publisher's paid circulation and revenue reach record highs. In 2005, product-related revenue reached about $190 million. Sales of its special interest publications' books and special reports and guides' jumped 16 percent. And, Sateja's portfolio of products expanded as the company launched three new special interest publications, an online used-car buying kit, and a Medical Web site (ConsumerReportsMedicalGuide.org), developed in conjunction with the British Medical Journal Publishing Group.
In his keynote address, scheduled for Tuesday, March 21, 9 a.m., at the Hilton New York in midtown Manhattan, Sateja will speak to an audience of publishing industry executives about the success behind one of the nation's most successful and trusted publishing brands of the 21st century.
"We are thrilled that John will present the keynote address; his insights and experience will be extremely valuable to our attendees. Consumer Reports has been experiencing significant growth across all of its products at a very transitional time when many in the industry are struggling for a foothold," says Noelle Skodzinski, editor in chief for Book Business and Publishing Executive magazines, and director of the conference program. "John's successes with Consumer Reports' publishing products can be a learning experience for us all, regarding content, multimedia publishing models, branding, marketing, revenue building, you name it."
BookTech includes the new Book Business Conference and PrintMedia includes the new Publishing Executive Conference.
