60th Anniversary Franklin Event Draws Sell-Out Crowd
NEW YORK—A sell-out crowd of more than 400 CEOs and senior executives from the printing, advertising, publishing and graphics community filled The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers here to celebrate the 60th anniversary of The Franklin Event, sponsored by Printing Industries Alliance (PIA).
Howard Draft, executive chairman of global marketing enterprise Draftfcb, accepted the Franklin Award for Distinguished Service. Receiving Power of Communications Awards were: Thomas Saggiomo, president and CEO, DG3 Group (for Printing); Kit Taylor, COO, New York Media LLC (for Publishing); and Paul Nicholson, senior vice president, production and technology, Showtime Networks (for Advertising).
PHOENIX—R and R Images has installed an HP Indigo 7600 digital press, and ordered a second HP Indigo 7600, to produce marketing collateral and photo products.
BOULDER—The University of Colorado at Boulder Imaging Services acquired a Presstek 34DI digital offset press.
ORLANDO—Lawton Printers recently moved into a 33,000-square-foot facility with added equipment and warehouse space, including a five-color Komori Lithrone SX29 (LSX529) offset press.
STUART—Southeastern Printing selected EFI Radius for its rollfed label business.
ATLANTA—A new HP Scitex FB700 wide-format printer has been purchased by Standard Press. The company also bought a Kongsberg XL computerized diecutting system to finish its wide-format work.
ADDISON—Transparent Container has acquired Richardson & Edwards Inc., a printer of paperboard folding cartons and other retail packaging solutions.
BLOOMINGDALE—Since purchasing a new MCS Eagle UV inkjet system, Datamart Direct can now run up to 30,000 ID cards in four to five hours (where it previously took two full days using its thermal printer).
LIBERTYVILLE—Chicago Tag & Label has opted for EFI Radius MIS software to replace its current EFI PSI Flexo system.
NILES—Johnson & Quin has added GrayHair Software's SelectTrak to manage and assign Intelligent Mail barcodes (IMb) for all tracked mailings.
EVANSVILLE—Since adding a new Presstek 52DI digital offset press, the University of Southern Indiana's Publishing Services has been able to bring the majority of its four-color work back in-house.
LAS VEGAS—The Dot Corp., of Irvine, CA, recently sold its facility here to Joe Hill, the former GM. The new company, offering offset, digital and mailing services, is called Dot Print Technologies of NV.
BELLMAWR—Episcopal Journal has selected Evergreen Printing to print its monthly news journal, quarterly magazines and companion offerings.
FAIRFIELD—Trucolor, the large-format and sign imaging division of FLM Graphics, has added an HP Scitex LX850 wide-format industrial printing system.
JERSEY CITY—The DG3 Group has licensed Pageflex Storefront and Pageflex Server to support print-on-demand and integrated marketing services for its Fortune 500 clients worldwide.
GREENSBORO—A new six-color, 56˝ manroland R906-6 LV sheetfed press with coating module will be installed at Carolina Graphic Services later this year. The press will complement an existing six-color, 64˝ manroland that was purchased in 2006.
WINSTON-SALEM—Salem Printing has acquired Advanced Direct (ADI), which will continue to operate from its existing Greensboro location.
WINSTON-SALEM—PostMark Inc. is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
ASHLAND—Bookmasters Inc. is celebrating its 40th year in business.
CINCINNATI—The Flottman Co. has acquired a new Konica Minolta bizhub PRESS C8000 color digital press.
HILLSBORO—Since installing a Konica Minolta bizhub PRESS C8000 color digital press and a six-color Komori Lithrone LSX29, Lithtex NW Printing Solutions has reported a more efficient workflow.
HUTTO—Mailworks Inc. has acquired a 36˝, eight-up Ryobi 924A sheetfed offset press from Ferrostaal based on the success of a Ryobi 924A running at Mailworks' Spring Valley, CA, plant since 2008.
GILLETTE—Simpsons Printing has installed a trio of Konica Minolta digital presses: a bizhub PRESS C7000, a bizhub PRO 951 and a bizhub C364. Simpsons also added a Duplo 660P cutter to finish the digital output.
