Colbert Packaging Prints, Perfects 14,000 SPH with New Speedmaster SX 102
KENNESAW, Ga. - November 7, 2017 - Colbert Packaging, headquartered in Lake Forest, Ill., has increased its package insert production capacity with the installation of a new Heidelberg Speedmaster SX 102-2P. The perfecting press was added to the company’s Kenosha, Wisconsin facility, where it manufactures package inserts as well as folding cartons and pressure-sensitive roll labels.
Both Sides Perfected Quickly
The Speedmaster SX 102 perfecting press features Heidelberg’s most innovative technology in the Peak Performance class. Printing and perfecting up to 14,000 sheets per hour, the perfecting technology ensures consistently high-quality at incredible sheet travel times, even with very thin substrates.
“We produce a high volume of pharmaceutical package inserts that are custom-printed and then micro-folded into as many as 238 panels,” says John Lackner, VP of corporate operations at Colbert Packaging. “We chose the SX 102 for its ability to rapidly feed and deliver lightweight substrates, which is critical to our insert production operation. The SX 102 has greatly increased our capacity for this product line.”
The packaging inserts printed by the SX 102 are then brought to Colbert’s Stahfolder Ti 52. This medium-sized folder handles challenging jobs that involve complex folding schemes with ease. Since installation several years ago, the Ti 52 has been a consistent performer in Colbert Packaging’s finishing line-up.
Meeting Customer Expectations
The SX 102 gives Colbert Packaging the speed it needs to keep pace with customer demand – without sacrificing quality. The company is no stranger to Heidelberg’s high-quality production. With Prinect Pressroom Manager, a POLAR lightweight paper cutter, a Speedmaster XL 106, and a Heidelberg CD 102 in its manufacturing platform, Colbert Packaging can trust that the SX 102 will deliver the same optimum performance they’re used to.
“While we are just getting underway with production on our new Heidelberg, we are confident that this installation will meet our customers’ expectations for the highest quality, while enhancing our flexibility, increasing our capacity, and strengthening our ability to efficiently service customers,” relays Lackner.
