American Litho Campaigns to Fight Cancer, Aims to Raise $20,000 for American Cancer Society
CAROL STREAM, IL—February 2, 2015—American Litho, one of the region’s fastest-growing commercial printing and direct marketing firms, has announced its goal to raise $20,000 on behalf of the American Cancer Society (ACS) in 2015.
The company's year-long campaign will also draw on ACS' educational resources to help ALitho employees and their families learn how to reduce cancer risks, explained Vice President of Sales Frank Arostegui, himself a cancer survivor and member of the ACS Regional Leadership Board for the DuPage (Illinois) County area.
“ACS is a leader in funding research, patient support and education aimed at ending all forms of cancer,” remarked Arostegui. “We’re proud to be their partner in the fight to save lives.”
With more than 300 staff members in Carol Stream, IL, and a sales and service team in Detroit, ALitho will tap the full power of its workforce to raise funds at Relay For Life of Carol Stream on Saturday, June 27. The event takes place at Ross Ferraro Town Center, at the corner of Gary Avenue and Lies Road.
Joe Bulgarelli, an executive with ALitho’s sales team and a resident of St. Charles, IL, has volunteered to serve as co-captain of the Relay team. “We can’t wait to get started and we know there will be plenty of support from employees, friends and the community,” relayed Bulgarelli.
But raising funds is just the start, ALitho President Mike Fontana said.
“We’re really going to emphasize wellness so that employees and their loved ones learn how to live healthy lives with lower chances of developing cancer,” he explained. “We’re hoping to share some of the tools we create with other businesses in the Carol Stream, St. Charles and Bloomingdale area.”
“All of us have been affected by cancer in some way, whether we’ve faced a diagnosis ourselves or watched a loved one struggle with it,” Fontana pointed out. “We need to support education and support programs that provide real help for cancer patients.”
Fontana said the company is proud to support ACS programs such as Road to Recovery, which provides free rides to cancer treatment for patients who can’t get there on their own, and the 24/7 hotline (800-227-2345) for cancer patients, caregivers, family and friends.
During the year-long campaign, ALitho will host a series of wellness events, including an April lunch-and-learn focused on simple steps to reduce risks.
A cookbook featuring healthy recipes will be published this summer, followed by an ice skating event organized by ALitho employees who play and coach hockey.
The company also plans to field a team for ACS Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, a series of Chicago-area morning walks to raise funds and awareness. ALitho will take part in the Strides event set for Sunday, October 18 at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, IL.
“We’re planning a series of ‘wear-your-jeans-to-work’ days and a special pink-out event to get people involved in Strides,” says Arostegui. “At every event we’ll share information about nutrition, physical activity, smoking cessation and other ways that women and men can stay healthy for life.”
Arostegui is a frequent contributor to ALitho’s company blog, where he recently shared the story of his cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery. (His story can be viewed at www.alitho.com/blog/alitho-news/bulldozing-envelope.)
Arostegui will serve as a leadership host of the ACS Black & White Ball on Saturday, Feb. 28.
