PIA Names Winners of 2011 Best Workplace

PITTSBURGH—A total of 33 graphic arts companies were named recipients of the 2011 Best Workplace in the Americas Awards by Printing Industries of America (PIA). The winners were selected by a committee of human resources experts from within the industry. The program is designed to recognize graphic arts companies for their outstanding human relations efforts that contribute to a successful workplace.

A total of 14 companies received the coveted Best of the Best designation, while 19 earned Best Workplace honors.

Those lithographic printers walking the show floor earlier this month at Graph Expo in search of a bevy of heavy-iron, offset presses were sorely disappointed. With press manufacturers Heidelberg USA, Komori America and Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses opting to pass on this year's show, the South Hall at McCormick Place lacked the all-encompassing lineup of traditional press vendors that visitors in years past have come to expect.

Established in 1950, the Lewis Award is recognized throughout the graphic arts industry as the highest honor awarded to any individual in the business.

The Label Printing Industries of America (LPIA) is pleased to announce the appointment of new officers to the LPIA Board of Directors for 2009–2010. Serving as chairman of the board is Randy Hicks, vice president of operations, WS Packaging Group/SenecaSalem in Franklin, PA. Serving as vice chairman is Bernie Lacy, vice president, Litho Press Inc. in Indianapolis. The secretary/treasurer position will be held by Louis Iovoli, vice president of sales and marketing, Hammer Packaging Corporation, Rochester, NY. William J. Hickey, III will serve as the immediate past chairman. Bill is the president & CEO of Smyth Companies in Minneapolis.
