COHOES, NY—Mohawk Fine Papers has purchased the premium uncoated writing, text and cover brands from SMART Papers of Hamilton, OH. The purchase includes the Carnival, Passport, Genesis, Synergy, Pegasus, Magna Carta, Solutions, Feltweave, Nekoosa, Proterra, Skytone, and SMART Brights brands, and will reportedly make Mohawk the largest supplier of premium papers in North America.

Green Printer Promotes ‘Blue Air’ PHOENIX—As Arizona’s only employee-owned commercial printing company, O’Neil Printing is used to thinking outside the box. Green Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Eco-Friendly Machine MIAMI—Original Impressions recently announced a series of “Going Green” initiatives, while unveiling its newly installed Heidelberg XL 105 printing press. The announcements were made at the company’s two-day open house held in conjunction with Earth Day. At the event, Founder and CEO Roland B. Garcia Sr. provided opening remarks on the evolution of the company’s business plan to include environmentally sustainable initiatives. SMART Papers Breaks Ground On $30 Million Project to Produce Environmentally Responsible Premium Printing Papers

HAMILTON, OH—May 13, 2008—SMART Papers has begun construction on a new $30 million high-efficiency energy co-generation facility at its manufacturing center here that marks an important first for the North American papermaking industry. By early 2009, SMART Papers will produce all of its own power and begin a transition to 100% cellulosic biomass fuel. By late 2009, all products will be fully carbon neutral and produced 100% fossil fuel free, company officials said. SMART Papers, which makes premium coated and uncoated printing papers for businesses and consumers, including Fortune 500 companies, said its products will be carbon-neutral because its manufacturing center will be powered

Bowne Obtains RSG Digital NEW YORK—Bowne & Co. has acquired the digital printing business of Rapid Solutions Group, a subsidiary of Janus Capital Group, for $14.5 million. RSG Digital has annual sales of about $45 million. RSG’s digital printing unit operates facilities in Chicago and Melville, NY. Genesis Printing Faces Attacks MOONVILLE, SC—Within a span of two weeks, Genesis Printing was the victim of two separate incidents, one involving racist vandalism and, the most recent, a fire that caused $5 million in damage. MONTREAL—April 9, 2008—Domtar Corp. announced today that it has entered into an agreement for the sale of its text, cover and writing product line of papers to SMART Papers of Hamilton, Ohio, an independent manufacturer and marketer of premium cast-coated, matte-coated and uncoated printing papers. Closing is scheduled for April 21, 2008. Domtar grades designated by this agreement are Solutions®, Feltweave®, Nekoosa® Linen, Nekoosa® Bond, Nekoosa® 25% Cotton, Proterra® and Skytone®. Group Visits KBA’s German Headquarters RADEBEUL, GERMANY—KBA North America invited a select number of U.S. and Canadian printers, as well as industry journalists, to visit its headquarters and sheetfed press manufacturing facility here recently. The group was treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the factory assembly hall; the R&D facility; product demonstrations on the new-generation, 41˝ Rapida 105 five-over-five perfector press and the large-format, 56˝ Rapida 142 four-over-four perfector; and visits to several area printers that are utilizing KBA presses in sophisticated markets.
