On a More Personal Note...
I lost my dad last week. If you are reading this blog on the day it is released, Tuesday August 9, know that we are holding his funeral service and burial today.
My father, John Harold Desmond Farquharson, was born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1924 and came to this country 10 years later. He was the source of my sense of humor and, though unconfirmed, my ADD.
Mom told me a few years ago that he really didn't understand what I do for work. He was a simply guy who lived a simple life and he understood things that weren't complicated.
I was complicated.
The idea of people paying to hear me talk was beyond his realm of comprehension. And though he never did get his arms around my career of choice, it was from my father that I learned a great deal about sales and, in particular, living a life in balance.
In blogs past, I have called my mother my first sales manager. If that is true, then dad was my first sales mentor. I watched what he did and emulated some actions while doing the exact opposite of others.
While I will miss my father, his was a life well-lived and I will celebrate his life far more than to mourn the loss. 92 years is a heckuva run.
Next week's blog will return to the usual subjects. I consider my clients to be my friends and thought this event worthy of sharing.
