BIG PICTURE perspective is the ultimate goal of the Web Offset Association’s (WOA) Offset and Beyond Printer-to-Printer Business & Technology Conference. After all, attendees of the printer-driven conference, which takes place May 4-6, 2009, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, don’t benefit just from talking about web offset, sheetfed offset or even digital printing.

PITTSBURGH—June 25, 2008—PIA/GATF sadly reports that its long-time editor, Tom Destree, passed away suddenly on Monday at his home in Castle Shannon, PA. Tom Destree, 53 years old, was one of PIA/GATF’s most valued veterans and one who touched many through his skilled editing and writing. In fact, it is believed he may have touched every printed document issued by the organization. Destree was with PIA/GATF for 30 years, initially with the original GATF group, and most recently held the position of Editor in Chief. He worked tirelessly through the years, the primary behind-the-scenes editorial support for the more than 12,000 member companies comprising

ONE OF the biggest selling points of the annual Web Offset Association (WOA) conference is that it hasn’t turned into a statue that’s firmly cemented and unmoving. The venerable conference’s year-old name, Offset and Beyond, suggests that its participants view technology favorably and don’t consider themselves forever locked into the past. Not that we’re turning our backs on offset lithography, mind you. It’s not being thrown under the technological bus. But it stands to reason that web and sheetfed offset printers need as many guns in their arsenal as possible to remain competitive in a congested marketplace, and the good folks who bring you

SEWICKLEY, PA—March 13, 2007—PIA/GATF’s Presidents Conference welcomed its largest number of newcomers last week. In addition to our overwhelming number of newcomers, we had over 300 registrants and guests who gathered to discuss Printing Industry at the Crossroads. Solid 2007 economic forecasts from Dr. Ronnie Davis coupled with results of the postal reform legislative victories kicked-off the association highlights. The Presidents Conference was the venue for the prestigious recognition of the Lewis Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award; this year’s recipient was Thomas A. Quadracci in recognition of his service to the industry. PrintPAC inaugurated the first silent auction entitled Road Rally to raise funds for the

WORLD AND industry viewpoints alike are set to come together at the upcoming 2006 Web Offset Association (WOA) Management and Technical Conference. But what sets this meeting apart in our conference-heavy industry? According to the WOA’s executive director, the combination of heavy-hitter speakers and relevant industry information will keep those attending the event wanting more. “We want attendees to be able to customize the experience for their individual needs,” reports Mary Garnett, PIA/GATF vice president and WOA executive director. Titled “Decision Points 2006,” the 54th annual conference will take place at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando, FL, on May 21-24. Designed for executives

By Kristen E. Monte This past January, the Web Offset Association (WOA) concluded its search for a new executive director by naming Mary Garnett to the position. Garnett, who filled the open position created with the retirement of Tom Basore, took over on February 16. Garnett previously served as a vice president with Printing Industries of America (PIA) and, in addition to her duties as the new WOA executive director, she is also serving as GATF/PIA's senior staff member responsible for Special Interest Groups and Sections. In 1994, Garnett joined PIA as a director of education and moved up to vice president of education. She holds
