MeadWestvaco, RockTenn Combine to Form a $16B Global Consumer, Corrugated Packaging Provider

Rock-Tenn Co. and MeadWestvaco Corp. have entered into a definitive combination agreement to create a global provider of consumer and corrugated packaging in a transaction with a combined equity value of $16 billion. The combined company, to be named prior to closing, will have combined net sales of $15.7 billion and adjusted EBITDA of $2.9 billion, including the impact of $300 million in estimated annual synergies to be achieved over three years.

Heidelberg Celebrates 100th Installation of a VLF Speedmaster Press at RockTenn’s Clinton, IA, Plant

Folding carton, corrugated box and merchandising display manufacturer RockTenn has purchased the 100th Heidelberg VLF press, which will be installed at its Clinton, IA, facility. Steve Voorhees, RockTenn CEO, and Craig Gunckel, executive vice president of merchandising display and folding carton, were on hand at Heidelberg’s Hall 11 assembly center, part of the Heidelberg Wiesloch-Walldorf Factory complex, to inspect the press and participate in a special event with Heidelberg executives and employees to salute the 100th press accomplishment.

RockTenn to Acquire Simpson Kraft Paper Mill in Tacoma, WA

Packaging manufacturer RockTenn is set to acquire Simpson Lumber's Kraft Paper Mill located in Tacoma, WA, for approximately $343 million. The mill operates a 55-megawatt green biomass fuel cogeneration facility that was completed in 2009 and sells electricity under a long-term contract.

PITTSBURGH—June 7, 2007—The Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF) announced the formation of a Center for Lean Practices to assist members with the implementation of Lean Manufacturing practices.
