Thomson-Shore Inc. in Dexter, MI, has upgraded to the full EFI Monarch print ERP suite with EFI IQuote for a seamless flow of information from the estimate through shipping and invoicing without the need to re-key data. "We were convinced that the combination of the full Monarch suite and IQuote would replace many of the home-grown solutions we had and provide us with a much more efficient workflow," noted Thomson-Shore President and CEO Kevin Spall.

Book Manufacturer Thomson-Shore Is Adapting and Rebounding

Kevin Spall, the president and CEO of Thomson-Shore, says the recession prodded his company ahead a few chapters in the book-manufacturing business. Revenues dropped more than 20 percent in 2008, prompting the first layoff notices in the employee-owned firm’s 40-year history—from 260 workers to a low of 179.

As Spall and his management team saw it, the firm could adapt to the changing marketplace or face decline. They opted to introduce new digital services while enhancing offerings in their traditional niche of short- and medium-size print runs, typically 1,000 to 1,500 books.

Thomson-Shore, a book manufacturer specializing in short- to medium-run digital and offset books, has signed a partnership agreement with U.K.-based Clays Ltd. Thomson-Shore will print books for Clays’ customers seeking distribution in the United States. Clays, in turn, will print Thomson-Shore customers’ books for distribution anywhere outside of North America.
