The printing operations of United Litho located in Ashburn, VA, will be consolidated into Dartmouth Printing’s facility in Hanover, NH. According to the Washington Business Journal, 80 jobs will be eliminated as a result. Sales and customer service staff will continue to operate in the Dulles/Ashburn, VA area.

The printer has added mail services by acquiring new data management and mailing services equipment, including in-line and off-line inkjetting on multiple substrates and coatings, lasering, letter shop services, envelope inserting up to 9.5x12.5˝, match mailing, tabbing, polybagging and fugitive gluing.

STAMFORD, CT—Cenveo Inc. has informed the department of labor in Maryland that it plans to close its facility in Baltimore by Feb. 26, the Baltimore Business Journal reported. The move with leave 115 employees without jobs. PI Weekly reported last week that Cenveo plants in Virginia and Nebraska were also in the process of shutting down, impacting 180 workers combined.

The Printing and Graphics Association MidAtlantic (PGAMA), a non-profit trade association for local printing firms and related businesses, appointed Al Maddox, Jr. as Chairman of the Board effective July 1. Maddox is the first African-American Chairman for the local trade association, and is also the first African-American to hold the title of Board Chair for any printing industry association in the country.

NAPL, the trade association for excellence in business management, selected 17 graphic communications companies to receive 2008 Management Plus Awards, which recognize management excellence in all phases of operation.
