Donnelley Suffers Significant Loss

CHICAGO—The second quarter wasn't kind to RR Donnelley as it reported earnings of $25.2 million on net sales of $2.4 billion, compared to earnings of $145.1 million on net sales of $2.9 billion for the same period last year. The Q2 earnings included $48.2 million in pre-tax charges for restructuring and impairment.
 
CGX, Cenveo Experience Sharp Dips in Profits

HOUSTON—Consolidated Graphics (CGX) saw a 21 percent year-over-year drop in its quarterly performance. It registered revenue of $225.9 million, with an operating income of $.9 million compared to $20 million for the same period in 2008. CGX said the revenue decline was primarily due to a year-over-year same store decline, along with lower election-related business.
 
Herald Printing Shutters Operations

SACRAMENTO, CA—Herald Printing, which prints newspaper inserts, grocery ads and coupon books, is closing Friday after 59 years in business, according to the Sacramento Bee. A total of 43 employees are impacted by the move. Owner Ralph Danel Jr. told the paper that he couldn't secure a bank loan to keep the business afloat. According to the Bee, Herald Printing posted sales of $26 million and employed 150 people at its peak.
 
Spear Closing New Hampshire Plant

MILFORD, NH—Label manufacturer Spear is shutting down its manufacturing operations here and will transfer them to the company's Mason, OH, facility, according to the Nashua Telegraph. Sixty jobs are being lost in Milford, though 30 positions will open in Mason, and many of those posts could be filled by transfers.
