Grossman New Alexander CEO CLIFTON, NJ—Roy Grossman, president of Sandy Alexander, has been promoted to CEO, effective January 1, 2003, the company announced. Grossman will replace Frank Stillo, who will remain as chairman of the board. Grossman, who also serves on the board of directors, was named president in 1995. He joined the company in 1991 as a managing director. Sandy Alexander also announced that it has attained ISO 14001 registration, in addition to its previously attained ISO 9002 certification. Phoenix Press Bolsters Bindery NEW HAVEN, CT—Improved service and faster turnaround time expectations prompted Phoenix Press' acquisition of five new pieces of bindery equipment. The company added a Rollem TR system for two-directional perforating, scoring and slitting. Phoenix also added a Sterling Punchmaster and Rilecart TP-480 binding machine. A Sterling S59 gatherer/collator and a Corta PB04 paper drilling machine round out the acquisitions. Atlanta-based Naylor has announced a series of management changes. Steve Naylor has been named president and CEO. As president and CEO, Naylor represents the second generation of leadership in the company, succeeding his father and company founder John Wayne Naylor. Erna Schneiderman is now the director of sales and marketing. Carl Garner has been appointed the director of finance. He is a CPA and has been with the company for 10 years. Lewis Henderson has been named general manager of K/P Corp.'s Kent, WA-based mailing and fulfillment facility. Henderson brings 15 years of experience in fulfillment, marketing and management to his new position. Susan Roberts has been hired as a sales representative for Padgett Press, Dallas. She covers the San Antonio and Houston areas. She joins the company from Quebecor World Printing. Karl Saionz has been appointed plant manager at Chicago-based Falcon Communications, a member of the Segerdahl Group. Prior to joining the company, he was the manufacturing manager at Booklet Binding. Rich de Senglau now heads K/P Corp.'s Northern California mailing and fulfillment division. BY ERIK CAGLE Without a doubt, 2001 was both a forgettable year and a year that won't soon be forgotten. Printers spent most of the year lamenting a poor economy that seemed to be trying to outdo itself in finding new lows with each passing month. Their customers, print buyers, were feeling the pinch: ad pages and folios dwindled, print orders declined and traditional commercial work seemed to be taking a beating. CALIFORNIABUENA PARK—Ernest A. Lindner, printer, collector and founder of the International Printing Museum, passed away on October 2. BURBANK—Richard Rice, president of Candlelight Press, announced that two long-term employees, Richard Alonzo and James Magdaleno, are the USA National Print Olympics champions. The competition was held during PRINT 01 in Chicago, where the contestants were evaluated on their offset press skills. Alonzo and Magdaleno qualified for the national event after winning the western regional competition. They will contend for an international championship at IPEX, held in Birmingham, England, in April 2002.
