J.S. McCarthy Adds Stahlfolder with High-performance PFX Feeder

J.S. McCarthy Printers of Augusta, ME, is the first U.S. printer to install a Stahl KH-82 6KTLP folder with pallet-fed PFX feeder and Twinstacker TSH-70 delivery from Heidelberg. The new unit has so far saved J.S. McCarthy nearly 4,500 hours per year in folding production time, and the company is moving a large portion of its commercial signature work to the new machine.

Hearing of the devastation in Japan, Rick Tardiff's thoughts turned first not to the multimillion-dollar, state-of-the-art printing press his company is having built in Tokyo, but to the people building it. “I was worried about the people, very much so,” said Tardiff, who was so intimately involved in the design of the printing press, he went to Tokyo himself to work on it, though he wasn’t there at the time of the disaster.

The machine is still slated to arrive in Augusta (ME) this summer, as the centerpiece of a $5 million, 22,000-square-foot expansion at Augusta-based J.S. McCarthy Printers.
