About Kelly

Now working as a consultant, Kelly sold digital printing for 15 years so she understands the challenges, frustrations and pitfalls of building a successful sales practice. Her mission is to help printers of all sizes sell more stuff. Kelly's areas of focus include client recovery, retention and acquisition, and marketing communications projects.

I’m calling Bull%&^#!

I’m going to keep this short, because I am in a bad mood today. I’m sick, my kids are sick, and we are getting on a plane in nine hours. I’m very excited about the destination, but not the transit.

So in a rush to try to come up with a topic this week, I am letting my emotions guide me. Here goes.

I am SICK AND TIRED of hearing people saying they don’t have time. My clients claim they don’t have the time to complete the assignments I give them. My prospects don’t have time to talk about the proposals I have presented to them. My friends don’t have time to come and visit me, even though I live 28 miles from the city.

I have had enough. I say you are full of crap.

Because the fundamental truth is, PEOPLE MAKE TIME TO DO WHAT THEY WANT TO DO.

The reason your sales are not better is that you are not willing to make the changes necessary to make it happen. You want the sales; you want the commissions and the recognition; but, you don’t want to do the work.

Admittedly, the work is hard. But glory and wealth are not going to come to you without the hard work. I don’t care if it used to be easier. Today is the day, and today is the reality. And, today, you need to find something of value to say, consistently fill your pipeline with new prospects, and work hard every day to earn the business.

So quit making excuses. Decide what you want, and make it happen. Don’t make me come over there.

Kelly, Sweet!! ...to the point...no kid gloves!! Pure 'Truth" isn't subtle. Just think...somebody, somewhere spent good money and long hours in class to learn what you said in just a few paragraphs, and some people will never grasp it. Phil

Kelly- You couldn't have been any more direct, but maybe that is the approach many need to get the point. I couldn't agree with you more on this topic. Hope everyone feels better and enjoys the destination. Thanks for sharing!

Our account reps are too busy to fill out a job ticket, my boss is too busy to have production meetings, our pressmen are too busy to do maintenance, and even our customers are too busy to look at proofs (but not too busy to catch mistakes once the job has been printed). On top of that, the number of people with AADD in our industry seems to be growing exponentially. "Because the fundamental truth is, PEOPLE MAKE TIME TO DO WHAT THEY WANT TO DO." I couldn't agree more!

As Mae West once said, an ounce of performance is worth two pounds of promises (bull!@#$). You are right on, from a sales standpoint if you don't take the time to understand your client or prospects pain and craft a compelling solution then you will be on the end of the statement - I haven't had time.

Kelly; I AGREE WITH YOU! For a hundred-million reasons (somewhat similar to yours). If someone wants the thing, they make the time for it, period. Hope you feel better soon; kids too. mjnc
