Do You Have #TweetCred?

Most of us have heard the expression “street cred” in regard to what one’s peers think about a person.  My twist on that is what is your #TweetCred? You see, we live in a 140-character world that is filled with abbreviations, emoticons and my personal favorite—and old reliable—LOL. 

So, in an instantaneous, I want it now world that has a short attention span...what do you do? First, you use the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) model. Our communications are designed to convey our thoughts to others. However, such thoughts are ineffective unless the audience understands the message that you are trying to present. So KISS (not me) if you desire to have #StreetCred.

I also recommend you follow the Five C’s of Effective Communications (outlined as a chapter in my “Everyone Is in Sales” book) to become more effective communicators. The Five C’s include clarity, consistency, creativity, content and connections. If you include these qualities of communications into your daily life, your business and personal relations will improve. First, in our world, where a tweet (140 characters can say a lot) you should be thinking...is your information clear and easy to follow?  Second, are you consistent in what you say, do and write in all mediums? Do you walk the walk? Third, how creative and unique are you in your approach? Nobody wants to be bored. Fourth, how strong is your content?  Great content, whether original or curated, is incredibly powerful. Fifth, how strong of a connection are you creating with others? This is why some people sell value whereas others sell price.

Connections are all about the relationship and value. So, I challenge you to embrace the Five C’s of Effective Communications and begin earning some street cred...oops...I meant #TweetCred.
